How To Stop A Toothache When You Wake With Agonizing Pain At 3AM
Let’s set the scene.
It’s 3:00 A.M. You’re suddenly jolted awake by an intense pain shooting through your jaw up toward your ear. You know the pain all too well. It’s the agonizing pain of a toothache, and you need to figure out how to stop it…fast.
With no dentist around and all the local stores closed, finding toothache pain relief in the middle of the night can be a difficult proposition. But, when you’re faced with a crisis situation, masking the pain may be your top priority.
In some cases, removing a tooth or having a dentist perform surgery may be the only way to provide permanent toothache relief. However, many times tooth pain can be eliminated without a dentist’s visit if it’s caused by things like food getting trapped around the base of your tooth.
The trapped food often causes a bacterial infection which leads to the soreness, sensitivity, and pain associated with most toothaches. By cleaning the teeth and gums and removing the trapped food, the pain will often subside quickly.
Therefore, the first step when figuring out how to stop a toothache should always be rinsing out your mouth. This will help remove any trapped food particles and associated bacteria.
For a quick rinse, do the following:
Take a spoonful of salt and mix it with warm water. Use the mixture like a mouthwash, swishing it around the infected area for 30 seconds – 1 minute. Then, spit it out and repeat the process a few more times as needed. You can never be too thorough.

Chew Peppermint Leaves
Chewing peppermint leaves can be an effective toothache remedy. It’s best to chew on fresh leaves, but if fresh peppermint leaves are not available, dried ones can also be placed around the infected area.
For a more accurate application, try mashing the leaves up with a little bit of water to form a paste. With the right consistency, the paste can be molded around the sore tooth and left there to provide longer-lasting relief.
The Baking Soda Trick
You can also learn how to stop a toothache by using a quick and easy baking soda trick. Here’s how to get toothache pain relief with this method:
First, take a cotton swab and get it slightly moist. Rather than dipping it in water, get a few drops of water on your fingers and then stroke the swab to apply some of the moisture to it.
Next, dip the swab in baking soda. Once you have a nice heap, take the solution and apply it to your teeth and gums around the infected area. Repeat as necessary until you start feeling relief from your tooth pain.
You can also use baking soda as a mouthwash by mixing a spoonful with warm water and swishing it around your mouth before spitting it out.
